How to choose the right marketing channel

Have you ever felt like you are creating content on a channel that doesn't light you up?

You spend hours doing ALL the things you have been told to do but you don't get results?

Maybe that channel just doesn't give you energy. Maybe it isn't the right channel for you.

It doesn't mean you ditch it, but how can you shift?

How can you make the right choices for yourself and your business?

We’ve seen such success with people finding the right platform for them, and we want to share with you how you can get there.

This week we are diving into how content marketing and having a holistic approach to your business and strategy as a whole is the best way to go.

We are a CONTENT Queen so we want to explore choosing the right content marketing channel for you! We understand that the people reading this article probably create their own content OR have limited resources so we want you to use the right channel for you and your business.

And if you’d like to explore even further, have a look at this article by Marketing Insider Group for more!

What is the right content marketing channel for my business?

There are 5 basics you should have a look at when you want to start thinking about choosing one channel for you.

  1. What are your goals in your business

  2. Know where your customers are and what they are looking for

  3. You need to go on your customer's journey with them, so how will you communicate with them

  4. Check the competition to see what they’re up too

  5. Utilise your strategy and analyse the results

BUT… as an entrepreneur, someone creating content on your own, it is about the channel that YOU love, that's where you will find the most inspiration! To help you find this one channel for you, we have created the Content Queen “What Content Channel Should You Use in Your Business” quiz! This is a business self-discovery tool! A chance for you to learn more about marketing your business. A chance to learn more about yourself and what channel allows you to be the most creative, so if you want to see for yourself the platform you should be on, click here.

What is the wrong content marketing channel for your business?

To determine this you need to ask yourself “How much time am I spending on this platform and is it mentally draining me?” You also need to look at the results and metrics and see if it is worth your effort, even though your “audience” is there.

If you focus too much time and energy on the wrong platform your energy cant be put into the right channels. Check out which channel is right for you, play around, do the research and take our quiz to see! Here is the link if you missed it.

It is also important to look at the content you love to create, are you able to do this on the channel you are using right now? Even though we don’t know what piece of content will go viral or what trend is happening next, you do know the content you love and if a channel is not serving you - so have that honest check-in.

How to start on a new marketing channel?

While this can be scary, you don’t have to throw all your eggs into one basket and spend all of your time on this one new platform. You can still post on the other channels, take your time and not rush.

If it feels like too much, simply scale back your content on other channels to open up your time, that way you can put more energy in and give this new platform you're all. When you are on the new channel, you know the drill: be authentic! Don’t change the way you are just because you’ve moved channels!

Test, trial, and measure this new platform, remember that it is healthy to try new things in your business and see how it benefits you. If you want some more inspiration or that extra push to try something new, click the link here to see what more we’ve got to say about it.

Just like any platform, remember that you don’t have to post and show up every day, you don’t want to spread yourself too thin, or else you’ll be sick of it before you even start. We want to give it a chance to thrive!

Overall, you need patience when starting on a new platform. Give it time to flourish and give yourself time to look at where your traffic is coming from and what your audience needs. Exponential growth, rather than quick results, will show you what you need to see, so don’t rush and don’t judge too harshly straight away!

So what’s the plan of action?

Before you start writing out the types of content you will create, the days you will publish, and all that jazz. Let’s take a step back and slowly start piecing together an action plan!

Here is what you want to start with:

Brainstorm: If you got “video” content. Now is the time to think about exactly what channel you want to show up on. Do you go straight to YouTube or do you start on TikTok?

Research the platform: Is my audience there? Do I see myself on this platform? Look at the type of content being created. What can you do to bring your uniqueness and personality to the channel? What types of marketing will you do on it? Promote your email list? Take people to another piece of content or sell?

Research how to use it: Watch tutorials, use the platform as a consumer to get a feel for it!

The TikTok success story

This is an awesome story about a lady who realised she needed to find the right channel for her and succeeded once she did!

We want to share this story with you...

Lizette has been on Instagram for YEARS. She is an online fitness trainer and, as you can imagine, there are a lot of those on Instagram.

She wasn’t really seeing the growth she hoped for (even with the thoughts of exponential growth, you know time + consistency). After using TikTok for entertainment, one day a light bulb went off in her head, “Why don’t I try TikTok?”.

It became her JAM! But she didn’t start straight away, she implemented some things I am going to share with you below. Long story short, she now has over 75k followers AND a video that has reached over 1 million people. Her email list grows DAILY and she has more clients than she ever had before. She still uses Instagram but she shifted the focus BIG TIME.

Now, this doesn’t mean you have to start TikTok, but can you see the power in knowing the right channel for you? You don’t have to go through the pain Lizette went through for years. You now know what channel is right for you!

How cool is that? Knowing what channel you should be on and feeling aligned can pay off more than you think!

Final Thoughts

Now, we aren't saying your platform has to be Tiktok; find the type of content that LIGHTS you up! You can do this by taking the Content Queen quiz (click here).

Remember, test, trial, and measure, and take your time to see results! Content marketing is NOT a "one size fits all" it is about finding what works for you and your business, so be patient and take the time to settle in and find what allows you to be your most creative.

If the channel doesn’t light you up it doesn’t matter what coach or guidance you have, it won’t grow. People can tell the energy through your posts, this is why creating on an aligned platform is so important. It’s time to find out where you should be showing up for your business now!
