Am I ready to hire a content writer? If so, how do I find the right one!

A question you probably ask yourself with a lot of things... Am I ready?

Before we jump into this, I just want to talk first about what it looks like to hire anyone for your business.

Yes, it can be a very scary commitment, but really you know what they say “you have to spend money to make money”.

You need to see it like this… investing  money in your business by hiring someone isn’t just you losing money. It is giving you more time in your business so you can focus on your zone of genius, develop yourself or your business, spend time with clients.

You aren’t just giving money away for nothing. You are giving money to help develop your business.

Never forget that when you are deciding to level up by hiring someone to help. Once you do, you are allowing more money to come in.

If you think spending money in your business is scary, maybe you should do the research and work out your figures, you will be surprised how much you can actually put aside to help level up your business!

If time = money, aren’t you wasting time by doing all those tasks you know you can outsource? Maybe the Fortunate Investor can help clarify where you should be spending money. As they say “if they [and they are actually you] don’t have the capacity to take on greater workloads, then paying for outsourcing is a good idea.”

Okay now, so back to the topic. Before you look into hiring a content writer, you need to ask yourself some of the following questions.

Am I ready?

Are you creating enough content for your business?

Do you think you are creating enough content for your business? Are you consistently showing up to provide your audience with value added content? How many days are you showing up?

Do I show up consistently?

Like I said above, are you being consistent? With my content plan that I implemented late last year and refined this year, I have seen a lot of positive results in my business because people are seeing me everywhere! Because I am being consistent and I’m sticking to my plan.

Am I struggling with time?

Do you find you don’t have enough time in the week to do work for your clients and show up for your own business? If you are, this could mean you should be hiring a writer to take the pressure off to give you more time in your business to show up in other ways (through video etc).

Am I investing enough into my business?

This question could have a different answer depending on what you are referring to. But firstly, are you investing enough time to develop the foundations of your business? To show people who you are and what you are about. Are you also investing money in your business? Like I said, you need to be spending money to make money, allowing more room for abundance.

Do I have launches coming up?

I’m pretty confident the answer to this would be yes and if you are, how will you be promoting it? The answer will be something like social media, video, blogs, podcasts, advertising, networking etc. Do you know how often you will be promoting vs how often you will be engaging, informing, educating etc. Remember you can’t spend all your time selling. Do my business goals require new clients?

Also, I'm like 99.9% sure the answer is yes. How can a content writer help with this? They will help you sell, they will help you create the content you need to be seen in the online world. As I said in my podcast, you can't not be showing up with your content in a world full of content. But with a content writer, you can ensure it will be quality, not just quantity.

Who is the right writer for me? Or the 'one'

A writer who takes the time to know your business

You don’t just want to hire a writer, you want to hire someone who will take the time to get to know your business. What you want to achieve, your business values, style and tone. You want a writer to be part of your business, so to do that, they need to understand what you want to achieve.

A writer who brainstorms ideas for you as well

Of course, you will have your own ideas and a writer isn't there to take all creative rights and power off you (they will create as little or as much content as you need), but you also want someone who will be innovative, who will know what works and suggest ideas to help develop your content!

A writer who has content marketing skills

Now, this is a huge bonus if you find a writer who has content marketing skills. This will mean they can provide you with a content strategy, find out more about content strategy here. A content marketer will do just that, market your business through content. We know the top marketing trend right now is content and all forms of content creation, so really this is part of your marketing strategy.

A writer who helps you with a content strategy

As mentioned above, you want a content marketer to write for you because they will create the strategy. The strategy will give you purpose around your content, so it all talks, and it all makes sense to your audience. You can create your own by reading this blog here.

How to hire a content writer

Okay so maybe you have decided you need a writer? Now how do you do that exactly?

What you want to do is create a list of the things you will get a content writer/marketer to do. My recommendation?

  • A strategy (you need a plan around your content)

  • Help focus on a platform you aren’t on yet or don’t spend a lot of time on (this will help with your growth)

  • Get them to write blog content (if you hate this, you NEED blogs on your site)

  • Help with podcast scripts

  • Work on your website content

Write and schedule posts across all your socials (in case you don’t want to do ANY social media).

These are just a SMALL amount of things a content writer can do for you and your business! They work as part of your team, as a virtual assistant guiding you on your content journey!

Do you want a content writer to help you show up and perform on the social media channels or content platforms you haven’t been showing up on?

Are you looking for a writer but you aren’t sure who is right for you? Have a search and BOOK calls with people, get to know them and make sure you can have an open and honest relationship with them. Maybe we are right for you? Let’s have a chat!
